it comes from port out starboard home, which means that you take the more comfortable side on a cruiser liner. it has come to mean upper class, because they were the ones who could afford to do that. during the days of raj, tickets of passengers that travel from UK to India , were stamped with the word POSH.
another version has it that PO and SH were scrawled on the steamer trunks used on the voyage , by seamen when allocating cabins.



WELFARE
1. The official retire age in Nigeria is 65 years or 35 years of service.
2. there is old age pension in Nigeria but it is paid per month and the amount depends on your position before retirement.

QUALITY OF LIFE

It has been worth a while, everything has been going to my expectation, from the people around, academics expectation, and other expectations. but the problems i had so far are my church is far from my house, it is located in the middle of cardiff, so transporting to cardiff has been stressful, it takes more than 30 minutes to cardiff with road transport, i am also used to travelling long distance like that, with my personal car, which is more comfortable and relaxing than public transport.
   Secondly, i sometimes miss my family, which is a feeling that is always felt by international students. though i dont live with my parents in Nigeria, but during the christmas period, we all come home for the celebration, these i will be missing this year.
   Finally, preparing Nigeria food is very expensive , due to the fact that you rarely see them to buy, and the sellerswho sometimes import them will have to sell it on a higher rate in order for them to get profits from their sales. eating the british food, is not bad, they have some recipe or food that can be acceptably consumed but it also cost alot, which might be out of my budget.

CONTROVERSIES IN THE DEATH OF MARK DUGGAN.

The Guardian declared that it was not certain if mark is a hardened north london gangster and drugdealer or a loving family man who would never seek confrontation. the 29 years old totteham resident was killed by a police officer in august 2011. he was suspected to have shot at a police officer, which made the officer to shoot back as self defence. his girlfriend semone wilson, who has four children for him, said that though mark duggan has been remanded by the police on some occassion but has never been imprisoned before.
Tunmi's research showed that 13% of the mob involved in the london riot were his gang members, 42% were white coccassion, 46% were black, 7% were assians and the remaining 5% were others. he also stated that it is believed that IPCC is not independent because since 1998, 333 cases of police killing citizens has come up and no convitions has been done to prove that the police were actually responsible. he also stated that most of the youth involved in the crises were expelled from their schools because of their misconduct.
        Ralph stated that his research showed that after the incident,on the 6th of august, the family of duggan went to the police station to ascertain what caused the death of the man, but they were denied access to the top officials, and this contributed to the riot outburst.
       Abdullazeez, made his research known by discribing the believe of mike butchel, were he said that social networking website and blackberry contributed to the riot in london.he also stated that unemployment, poor funding by the Government is also a cause of the problem.
  Omolola, stated that the youth might regret their actions(independent), because of the damages done to the society, and that cameron has predicted that in the future they will start using rubber bullets to protect citizens.

CHINESE IN UK

There are lot of chinese living in the United Kingdom, Cantonese is a language that is spoken by 70 million people, while mandarin which is also known as putonghua is spoken by 874 million people.Cantonese is spoken in the southern part of china and mandarin is spoken in mostly in the north and also serves as the standard language for the country.They first relocated to UK in 1960s and 70s, and most of the immigrants were from Hong Kong, formerly, they dominated cardiff, liverpool, and bristol due to the problem in their country, which is the requisition of land for development purposes and an influx of refugees from the peoples republic of China during the cultural revolution, and high rate of employment in the country at that time.

Most of the immigrants came to study . There are about 300,000 Chinese in the Uk, most of them can be seen in birmigham, liverpool, london, manchester and Newcastle. In london cantonese was the eleventh most widely spoken language in a 2000 survey of school children, with the highest proportion living in hackey, southwark,lambeth and greenwich. They have interesting festivals which entertains other community groups like the chinese new year and the dragon boat festival. these festivals also helps in reviving the culture and language of the people.Funny enough chinese writing system is built around different variety of characters which have no relation to the spoken word.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Time management is a way you manage your time, it is important for students,in order to be co-ordinated. students who fail to manage their time will be disorganised. they will be unable to submit assignment at the appropriate time. some may even be unable to concetrate or understand lessons in class because they may had been busy using their time for things uneccessary.

DEBATE ON CHILD SMACKING

The first topic on the agenda of the new system in the assembly was debated,it was about smacking of kids,all members in the house voted on the debate . some love the idea,like the deputy minister who wants purnishment for offenders.conservative darren opposed the move believing parents has the right to discipline their children. This law was passed 19 october 2011 in the welsh assembly.   

  

A NEW GOVERNMENT

Britain has been under the control of labour party since the second world war(1945). tony blair and gordon brown has also represented the party since 1997. The last election saw the power take over by the conservatives, which was represented by the leader of party, David Cameron, who has been the youngest prime minister ever.They are of the ideology that free market, privatisation and low taxation will favour the country.
       In the election, the votes collected goes thus;
CONSERVATIVE-36%, LABOUR-29%, LIB DEMS 23% and other vote shared among smaller parties.
British is seperated into 650 districts, each having a member in the parliament most people of Britain believe the system of electing representative in parliament is unfair because only the winning party are represented in parliament. after the election, the conservatives and lib dems formed a coalition.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF EUROPEAN UNION

European union is a political and economic union of 27 independent member states which are located primarily in europe. it brings together different countries and controls matters relating to politics and trade evolving the member states.the mode of operation is paradox and hard to understand.According to washington , he said "nobody would have deliberately designed a government as complex and as redundant as the european union".The advantages and disadvantages will be analysed in the text below.
                        ADVANTAGES OF BEING A MEMBER
1. It prevents war- war can be controlled between member, and any form of argument will be settled by the body.An instance was when georgia and russia were contemplating war. (According to The National Newspaper),it says the union is leading a diplomatic push to prevent all out war between georgia and russia.thats a strategy of minimizing war globally.

2. It increases trade and reduces european currency costs to firms-countries now trade within the union members and therfore money flows within the countries.

5. it makes states under it to rely on each other
6. they are subjected to restrictions that are favourable to their economy and development
7. their citizens can travel any where around the union in search of job.

 1. The system has been unstable, with changes of names, to constitution reviews, this is not good for such body.
 2.  Loss of soveriengty by members- countries can not be controlled by the leaders without the interferance of the European Union.

COMPARING EDUCATION IN NIGERIA AND UK

United Kingdom is known for their high standard of Education,It contains most of the best universities in the World, The likes of cambridge, Oxford and other great citadel of learning. While Nigeria,has been fighting to creat a standard that can be compared with the world best Universities, Many reasons contribute to the difference between both countries standard of Education. Some of the reasons will be deliberated on, within the text below.
          Language  might be a hinderance to the Educational system of Nigeria, with a minimum of 250 languages, communication can be hard. But with the creation of pidgin English,the communication aid had been activated.For an education system to be good ,English should be accepted and use as a medium of communication within the formal setting. According to Akande(Professor university of Ibadan),people who are suppose to speak Nigeria pidgin English are those that has little or no formal education, but now it is used by students,University graduates, lawyers and journalists and other formal institutions.(Use and Attitudes towards Nigeria Pidgin English Among Nigerian Students (P30).
          Conversely, UK,speaks English as a general language, the growth in the educational setting can be linked to the particular way of communication.English is a ticket to many opportunities in uk. According to David Cameron," Language is vital not just to communication but other opportunities", He went further to declare a benefit cut for those who cant communicate in English. With this, students will learn English to get benefits attached. that may accelerate the growth of education in the country.(education guardian . co.uk).
          Nigeria Education system is low funded, the Government budgets little money which may not be enough to run the affairs of the schools. This instigates the constant strikes of the teachers and riots by the students.(According to Ajetomobi ), with researches made from the National University Commisssion and Federal Ministry Of Education, it indicates that since 1970 till date, the government funding is unstable and unpredictable, of the large budget implemented per year,only little fractions is directed towards Education.(Senior Lecturer, University of Technology, Nigeria).Dilapidated buildings, low staff income, strikes,uncomfortable serene for education is the basic characteristics of the Nigeria Education sector.
          UK government fund the Education so well, loans are given to students and their infrastructures upgraded from time to time.(According to economic journal,113, 2011),there is a shift from income support to student transfer loans,this loans help students to concetrate on their studies and pay back when they are capable. this help students grow mentally and otherwise, which reflects on the high standard in the countries education system.
          On this conclusion,It is believed that government infleunce,and communications is neccessary to increase the standard of education of a country.

THE PEOPLE THAT LIVE IN THE UK

                                               
UK as the name implies is the almagamation of different countries, with same ideas.it comprises of England, Wales,Scotland and Northern Ireland.According to (http://www.studentsoftheworld/ info/sites/countries/christopher php), three consistent countries england, scotland,and wales. the province of northern ireland forms the united kingdom principal international land border.
        In the uk, it is difficult to use the term britishness to discribe the general people,because the countries has different cultures,traditions and languages for communication.According to (www.kwintessential.co.uk/resources/global-ettique/uk.html) there are lot of immigrants from other countries ,so with the diversity and mixture of the citizens, it is therefore difficult to define britishness. now debates has been on as to the criteria of been a briton.many people have settled in uk, and with them been citizens, it will be difficult to draw a line between the main britons and the settled immigrants, who are mostly from india, pakistan,and the west indies.
         Due to the diversity of uk,wales and scotland, decided to create their own government. which is known as devolution.Devolution as defined by proffessor vernon bogdanor(oxford u.p. 1979). devolution is defined as the dispersal of power from a superior to an inferior political authority(www.leeds.ac.uk/law/hamlyn/devolution.htm) ist oct 2002. the authority of wales government now lies on the wales house of assembly in cardiff.and this has helped the country in taking personal decisions, which improves the states of the country. unlike back in the days when laws were made in london .
           However, the uk, still has much in common like, english as the general language and their flag which is shown above.
